Spring, Director’s Cut 2025 Spring / Summer COLLECTIONWe bring you a director’s cut of the 2025 Spring & Summer collection from Hiroshima.
I’ve known Kengo Nakamoto, the man behind DESCENDANT HIROSHIMA, since the ‘90s.
“DESCENDANT HIROSHIMA is located near Fukuromachi Park. Fukuromachi Park has a memorial monument and is a really nice space. Whenever property around a park becomes vacant, I feel a sense of mission to open a shop there. (Laughs) Elementary schools in Hiroshima spend a lot of time and effort on peace education, so this park is a very important place for the people of Hiroshima. Hiroshima is a city that is relatively warm with little rain, so from here on, there will be many sunny days and pleasant weather.” (Nakamoto)
I’ve given thought about how little most of us know about our own town, but Nakamoto-san knows his well and cherishes it a lot.
Today as always, his style, which is characteristic of his age, was amazing.
The shop manager, Kuwabara-kun, wore a hickory striped work shirt and a hooded sweatshirt.
Nakamura-kun wore a SPICOLO hooded shirt along with a chambray shirt.
Each person wears clothing in their own style, and rather than the clothes taking center stage, I like how the individuality of the wearer and the clothes they choose are brought out more. I think it’s important that the same clothing item looks different depending on who's wearing it. DESCENDANT is all about the wearer and it’s fine to just go along with the wearer’s individuality. In fact, that’s what makes it fun.
DESCENDANT HIROSHIMA has new things, old things, and things you won’t find in Tokyo. Our philosophy now is not just to have new things but to have a good mix of different things in harmony.
When I was a teenager, I went to my favorite stores where I often learned all sorts of new things. I feel strongly that in today’s world, stores should exist as places to connect favorite cultures and for people to interact.
