DIRECTOR’S CUT END OF THE YEAR 2025

Looking back on the year, it feels as though the scenery has passed by so quickly that I can hardly remember what I did. Perhaps that’s because I’ve been living with my eyes fixed on the future.

It feels like only yesterday that we were preparing for winter, and now it’s already the end of the year. No matter how many times you experience it, that sudden shift in mood always feels strangely surreal.

As this is the final FEATURE of the year, we’d like to close out the year with group shots of the crews working at their respective locations.

This is the production department.
Like a motorcycle shop or boatyard, it’s a team you can discuss ideas with. I want to do this; what if we tried that? They can run sewing machines and assemble toiles. The studio is lined with sewing and embroidery machines, with fabrics and trims carefully stored, creating an environment where ideas can be turned into reality immediately, and intuition can be turned into form. We’re supported by a truly reliable crew.

As we do every year, we also visited Otori Shrine in Asakusa for the Torinoichi festival and received a treasure-boat kumade from Yoshida-san.

The Sales Department is a team centered around conversations.
With this crew, ideas that are still unformed in my head become clearer through dialogue. When there are things to think about or worries to sort through, sharing and talking them out together helps guide everything in a positive direction. What we want to pursue next as DESCENDANT, and our next move, is born here.

Today, we somehow ended up talking about kayaking and decided we should go sometime soon (laughs).

This is the Descendant Tokyo deck crew.
A shop is a living thing. It continues to grow. Things change, things stay the same; items are put up on the walls, taken down, placed, and removed; there are those who stand in the shop, and those who come to visit. Within a space created by someone who intentionally left room to breathe, our sensibilities are tested every day. In the DEN room at the back of the store, events such as THINC PROJECT are held regularly. From the heart of Harajuku, they stand there conveying the DESCENDANT brand to the world.

We’ve successfully completed this winter’s deliveries. Winter is a season where not only can you wear a wide variety of fabrics and silhouettes, but you also find yourself thinking about clothes more than usual. It’s nothing particularly grand ,but somehow, that in itself is enjoyable.

We look forward to your continued support again next year.
