DESCENDANT

We are here at Tamagawa River today.
The cherry blossoms have bloomed, but there are still some cold days, making it a surprisingly difficult time to choose what to wear.

Tamagawa is a nostalgic place where, about 16 years ago, M&M’s MURA (Toshimi Murakami) used to open his garage to repair motorcycles and build something. At that time, there was M&M’s factory as well as a friend’s ironworks. It was a creative environment. He named the garage SPIT and held barbecues organized by MURA. Looking back at it now, I realize it was a very free and wonderful time.

That once garage is now a diner. MASA (Masafumi Miyazaki), the owner of a nearby pub called DELIGHT, which serves delicious fish and chips, is managing the diner while preserving the original interior. The decorations on the walls and the painted sign at the entrance remain the same. A new DESCENDANT store is scheduled to open in Harajuku soon and it would be great if we could have MASA's fish and chips served during the opening.

When I think back, I realize that the Tamagawa River has always been one of our playgrounds.
When I was a teenager, I used to play in the river a little further upstream.
In my 30s, I tinkered with my motorcycles in the garage a little further down the river on the banks of the Tamagawa River. Nowadays, I go out to sea from that river and go fishing off a boat.

This time, we were accompanied by Mirano Nakajima, a creative staff member of DESCENDANT and took some photos of the director’s cut at the Tamagawa River.

We use contrasting points. Their age, backbone, styles and color usage are entirely different. We both wear DESCENDANT, but he looks different because he wears it with a mindset that is uniquely his own. It’s good to have diversity. I always think that’s what’s interesting about DESCENDANT when I see it.
