DESCENDANT

This is a new slip-on created in collaboration with PPACO™, a brand led by Toshinosuke Takegahara of foot the coacher.

What sets it apart from the previous model is that it is based on a prototype early model from PPACO™, rather than a foot the coacher silhouette. The design allows you to slip your heel in easily, while ensuring that your heel fits securely in place when worn properly.

I’ve known the designer, Toshinosuke Takegahara, for a long time, and I’ve seen many of the shoes he has created over the years. I think what sets his work apart is the breadth of his range and the quality of his craftsmanship, from classic leather shoes to more design-driven pieces and slightly unusual styles like this slip-on.

I spent a while trying to figure out how to wear these shoes myself, but the DESCENDANT crew seemed to wear them simply because they were easy to slip on, without overthinking it. It reminded me once again just how important “ease of wear” really is.

And yet, the shape is uniquely chunky, giving it a look and feel unlike any shoe I’ve seen before. While I admit I was initially bound by conventional ideas about footwear, spending my days in these slip-ons has made me realize that true authenticity often is born from this kind of unconventional approach.

It features the proprietary TRI-PAD® SOLE, while the upper is made of a suede-like synthetic leather. It really goes to show that when it comes to shoes, it’s best to leave it to the experts.
