DIRECTOR’S CUT END OF THE YEAR 2024

Another year has ended, and it's been so quick.
AI has been a hot topic for a while now but DESCENDANT is still built on people connecting with each other.
It may be analog, but it's still people.
As we approach the end of the year, I’d like to give you a glimpse into the types of people we are here, what kind of work they do, how they dress, what hobbies they have, where they come from, and where they're going.
We're all together because we love something in common.
These are the people who have made DESCENDANT.

Of course, there are other people besides them, such as absent staff, shop crew, outside contractors, factories, graphic designers, photographers, writers, and editors. The involvement of so many more people makes it possible.
For the last day of 2024, we would like to feature the staff who sit in the DESCENDANT headquarters office and work together.

NAO
General Manager

“Tetsu invited me to PHILOSOPHY in 2003, and after working at the WTAPS® production department, I'm here now. I work in sales, accounting, and human resources.
This year, I was involved in the opening of several stores such as Descendant Tokyo, but I never got around to redecorating the area around my desk, which I wanted to do.
Recently, in addition to climbing again, I've been watching soccer with my kids. If there are no games to watch, I watch a movie that day.”

KEE
Accounting Department

“I've been working here since DESCENDANT was in Nakameguro. Now, I mainly assist with accounting, which means I do a lot of things on my own, so I'm conscious of time management. In my personal time, I enjoy spending it with my four year old son even though it’s hard to keep up.”

YUM
Sales Department

“I joined the company in 2013 and have been watching DESCENDANT from the start. I’m mainly in charge of wholesale at DESCENDANT and communicate with vendors. I was relieved that I was able to progress smoothly with many projects I was working on at the same time. In my private life, I look forward to going to the snowy mountains and having more opportunities to snowboard.”

OGT
Sales Department

“I'm in charge of merchandising. I plan products together with the Director, Production Department, and Planning Department, and think about how to present them in stores. This year, I have fond memories of working with HELLY HANSEN. My hobby is walking, and my goal is to walk about 20,000 steps every day. Recently I've also started making plastic models.”

NMR
Sales Department

“I'm in charge of logistics, but since 2023 I've been working fully remotely from Kyoto. This year I've been thinking about what we can do to be environmentally conscious in logistics. I started playing golf this year, and DESCENDANT's clothes go surprisingly well with golf, especially the classic pants, DC-3 and DC-6.”

IKW
Sales Department

“I started working in 2020, and I'm mainly in charge of the DESCENDANT ONLINE STORE. There are services and systems that I haven't introduced yet, so I'm planning to do that next year. I've been reading books and taking care of my body recently, so I'm health-conscious.”

SMD
Production Department

“I work on new projects such as exhibition samples and THINC, discussing them both internally and externally to give shape to products. This year I had a lot of fun planning and producing THINC. Also, this is unrelated, but I like Japanese culture, such as yose-moji.”

MRN
Production Department

“I'm in production. Recently I've been involved in planning, and I've been styling things like LOOK. I'd like to continue planning events like the BOUTIQUE POP-UP we did this year. I think my role is to show a different side of DESCENDANT than the usual.”

IWA
Production Department

“I'm in charge of production management and pattern management daily. I transferred here from WTAPS® in June. This year, I remember introducing the hemming service for Descendant Tokyo, developing a new factory, and dismantling samples for THINC.”

KTO
Production Department

“I'm in charge of production management. I previously managed a women's apparel factory in Thailand for about seven years and later worked in a sewing factory. This year, the highlights were setting up the grand opening of Descendant Tokyo and preparing the novelties. Also, this year I started teaching volleyball to elementary school students in the neighborhood, and teaching children volleyball is my life's work.”

NKZ
Planning Department

“I started working as a shop staff member in 2005 when I was 21 years old. I'm now in the Planning Department, and I'm also in charge of web content, production, and PR. Lately, I've been enjoying learning a culture that I've never seen before, influenced by my 11-year-old child.”

SNO
PR Department

“I'm in PR. I started working here in February, but my father has always loved DESCENDANT. This year I had the great opportunity to work at the BOUTIQUE POP-UP and talk to everyone.
Cooking is my hobby, and I sometimes cook with vegetables I grow on my balcony. This year I'm trying my hand at pickling vegetables in rice bran, such as avocado and Japanese ginger.”

Although they don't usually appear in public, people like them gather together to make things and support the brand.
I look forward to your continued support next year.
