The Secret CONVERSE. CONVERSE × DESCENDANT

I think CONVERSE was of the more popular shoes on the American West Coast.

In those days, the older skaters around me used to customize their brand-new sneakers, right off the shelf. They’d paint them or add graffiti, stick on patches and stickers, shave down parts, or even cut high-tops down into low-tops.

Having seen those kinds of things up close is the origin of my approach to modification, and it still remains a part of my identity. These exclusive CONVERSE shoes we had made are simple, but the line on the sole has been removed and we went with a plain white sole.

It’s interesting how it ends up looking like a whole different thing when you make that change.

There are other small details as well. For example, we used zigzag houndstooth stitching like the seams on a yacht’s sail. And even when it comes to the navy color, rather than a bluish navy, we chose a deep navy, one of the signature colors of DESCENDANT.

One of the things that makes CONVERSE special is that your personality really shows through how you wear them. They are suitable for all ages, and the way people wear them changes with each generation. Young people often wear them in a somewhat messy but charming way, with laces that get twisted or tied so the ends hang unusually long, and I think that casual, imperfect style is really great.

As they show signs of wear, your identity begins to reveal itself.
Perhaps that’s what CONVERSE is all about.
