VISUAL MANUAL 26

It’s the season for shirts and cut-and-sew tops.
Even our usual button-down shirts come in several varieties, including easy-to-throw-on styles like Oxford and broadcloth check that you can wear over a T-shirt. For something a bit different, we also have short-sleeve pieces that look as if they’ve been dyed with red clay.

In Hawaii, there’s a type of shirt called a “red dirt shirt,” dyed with the island’s red soil. Inspired by that, we made a shirt dyed in a beautiful reddish-brown color reminiscent of red dirt.

The open-collar shirt is inspired by Showa-era looks. This style is labeled with the product name “Pier,” and overseas you often see people wearing open-collar shirts by the seaside.

For cut-and-sew pieces, we have options like teal blue and multi-stripe designs, along with the kind of staples DESCENDANT has continued to produce over the years, arriving this season alongside the shirts. It might also be one of DESCENDANT’s characteristics that what you wear and even the colors you choose change as you get older.

Come to think of it, there used to be seniors who would come into your part-time job when you were just starting out, only to eat lunch. And after work, you’d sometimes all go hang out together. We put this season’s visuals together with that kind of atmosphere in mind (laughs).

When you’re young, it’s good to have role models who act as mentors. I also feel that I was guided by seniors like that, spending my days completely absorbed and passionate, and that’s how I’ve come to be where I am now.
