The Family Sweatshirts. DESCENDANT 2024 Winter Additionals CollectionFor the DESCENDANT 2024 Winter Additionals Collection, we visited Take’s atelier of TAKE HANDS for the first time. He creates handmade bags and accessories, and we asked him to make masks for DESCENDANT during the pandemic (at that time, everyone was in a panic as masks were hard to come by.)
He uses a separate building of his house as his atelier. When I was talking to his two sons, they noted to me the tools they see their father use daily, and I suddenly realized that the children, who are closest to us, are growing up watching their parents’ backs.
“I had worked with Tetsu’s cousin Sean; we have been good friends, and during the pandemic, the mask I was making by hand caught Tetsu’s eye, and this is when we started to work together. It’s a small brand with the motto “Make it myself if necessary.” It is a lot of fun working with DESCENDANT because they are flexible in their ideas and allow me to make things freely.
When think of DESCENDANT, three things come to my mind: naturalness, tolerance, and connection. Both their products and the stores are natural and have a tolerance that makes me feel accepted which somehow makes me feel at ease. I also feel a connection with DESCENDANT as my friends and the brands I am close with are involved with them, creating products together. I also get the impression that collaborations are happening organically with people who have a connection with Tetsu. Although I can’t put it into words, the elements of “naturalness,” “tolerance,” and “connection” are like those of “family” and “friends,” and that kindness can be felt from DESCENDANT products and stores.
This sweatshirt is made of a thick brushed Terry that is warm, and the large silhouette makes it easy to move around and relax in. The graphics are based on classic logos and fronts, and the bold designs are typical of Tetsu’s sense that has not changed since the old days.” (TAKE)
