Koajiro Bay comes into view after passing through the miraculous nature sanctuary of Koajiro Forest.

Surrounded by dense trees and rocky shores, Koajiro Bay preserves a traditional Japanese landscape that has remained unchanged over time. While thinking about what attire would be suitable for spending time in such a place, I came across the Ajirogasa. It’s a woven bamboo hast made with the Ajiro weaving technique, and around this time of the year, it’s common to see local farmers wearing these hats while working in nearby fields.

When there is no shade or breeze under the blazing sun, I’ve come to realize, while observing the farmers working in the fields, these wide-brimmed Ajirogasa, made of bamboo, create breathable shade and serve a functional purpose. Ajirogasa is a piece of traditional Japanese workwear that blends seamlessly into the natural landscape while offering actual utility.

Since it’s likely to be another hot summer, DESCENDANT has sourced a batch of Ajirogasa. To make these traditional hats more wearable, we have added a special inner lining that allows for size adjustments.

The patches we applied for decoration are sold separately. We have designed around 15 different types for customization. Mixing them with patch pieces you may already own, you can freely personalize your hat. It’s a fun way to create something that’s uniquely yours.
