The multi-stripes and winter T-shirts of back then.

I recently watched a 1995 movie called “The Cure.” It all started when the art director Yuji Kamiyama, who creates the DESCENDANT’s seasonal graphics, told me that I would absolutely love it.

The movie begins with a depiction of kids at school in multi-striped cut and sewn clothes, caps worn backward, hombre plaid shirts, denim shorts, sneakers, and sports sandals worn with socks, a style that started appearing during this era. I was surprised by the opening scene; you could fully feel the sense of the times. I was excited to see these looks again (laughs). The props, the toys, the candies, the kid's rooms, and even the worn-out neck collar of the T-shirts were perfect.

I had no idea this movie even existed until now. The story is a human drama depicting the friendship between two boys. It was not only the fashion scenes that caught my attention but also the yacht harbor. The boats that appear in the movie are very nice and are the types of boats that are rarely seen in Japan. There was a scene where a kid was on rollerblades, which made me pause and stare. Perhaps because ice hockey was popular then, rollerblading also became popular. It allowed you to skate off the ice. That time has gone now, but it was a common sight in New York back then.

I visited the United States the most during this period. Still, more so, I watched American movies quite regularly, so I re-realized how much influence I got from their daily lives that appeared in films. It may be easier to understand that DESCENDANT is based off of this worldview.

The shirt jacket with quilted lining, the hooded shirt, and the lining of the denim jacket were all made with an original striped pattern. It’s thick but soft and has a fluffy feel. Only the lining of the denim jacket is in a different color. It was initially the same blue but was bleached to give it a red tone.

Another thing we created this fall/winter season is a T-shirt called CLASSIC FIT. Slanting the shoulders makes the sleeves and the bottom of the armholes shorter. The CLASSIC FIT is cut so that the sleeves don’t bunch up when the arms are lowered to the side, creating the most beautiful silhouette when worn. DESCENDANT T-shirts mainly come in three different fits, but this T-shirt has a shape that is most comfortable to wear when layered.

It’s not often that you wear just a T-shirt in the winter, but when I remove the outerwear, something about wearing a T-shirt made for summer doesn’t feel right. Personally, I change all my T-shirts to this type of tee when it’s winter. It’s a bit thin and refreshing. After reworking it many times over, I finally was able to create something I was satisfied with.

CUT&SEWN: HORIZON STRIP SS CLASSIC FIT

Smooth combed cotton with the HORIZON woven label attached on the bottom left. We created three styles in this CLASSIC FIT. These are recommended pieces.
